Paragliding in Lebanon: The Complete Guide to Flying Over Jounieh

Guides·17 August 2026·6 min read

Where to fly, when to come, what it costs and how a tandem flight from Ghosta to Jounieh Bay actually feels — a practical guide for first-timers.

Lebanon is one of the most underrated paragliding destinations in the Mediterranean. In less than an hour from Beirut you can be standing on a launch site 1,000 metres above the sea, looking down at Jounieh Bay, Harissa and the coastline stretching from Byblos to the capital.

Where do you fly?

Our tandem flights take off from Ghosta, in the hills above Kesrwan, and land on the Jounieh waterfront. The route gives you the full picture of the bay: the marina, the Lady of Lebanon shrine at Harissa, the cable car line, and the mountains behind them.

When is the best time to fly?

Lebanon offers flyable conditions almost all year. Spring and autumn are the sweet spot — stable air, mild temperatures and excellent visibility. Summer mornings and late afternoons are beautiful too, with sunset flights being the most photogenic of the year.

  • Spring (March–June): green mountains, smooth thermals, clear views.
  • Summer (July–September): fly early morning or at sunset to avoid mid-day heat.
  • Autumn (October–November): the most stable air of the year.
  • Winter: possible on clear, calm days between weather systems.

Do I need any experience?

None at all. A tandem flight means you are securely harnessed in front of a certified pilot who handles take-off, flight and landing. Your only job is to walk a few steps at launch and enjoy the view.

What should I wear?

  • Closed sport shoes — no sandals or heels.
  • Light layers; it is cooler in the air than on the ground.
  • Sunglasses and, if you have long hair, a hair tie.
  • Leave loose items behind — we secure phones and cameras before take-off.

Is paragliding safe in Lebanon?

Flown properly, paragliding is a controlled, weather-dependent sport. We fly with BHPA-certified training, inspected equipment, reserve parachutes and a strict no-fly policy when conditions are not right. Over 10,000 flights have landed safely with us.

Where the horizon is just the beginning.

How long does a flight last?

A standard tandem flight lasts around 10 to 15 minutes in the air, with roughly an hour for the full experience including briefing, gear-up, take-off and landing. Longer thermal flights are possible on the right days.
